BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's ice hockey teams invite community members to take part in this weekend's annual "Skate With The Polar Bears" food drive. The event will take place on Sunday, January 20 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Dayton Arena on the campus of Bowdoin College. The cost of admission is one non-perishable food item or paper product for the local food bank.
"This time of year, after the holidays, is when they really need it the most," according to men's ice hockey coach Terry Meagher. "Their supplies start to dwindle and the food banks are sorely in need of non-perishable food items and paper goods, like paper towels and napkins. It's really a win-win situaton for us because it gives our players a chance to meet members of the community, especially the young athletes, and it also gives us a chance to give back a little something to the area. Traditionally, it's a wonderful time for everyone involved."
The Polar Bears men's and women's teams are a combined 20-1-3 on the season, with the women's team ranked second in the nation and the men's team ranked seventh.
