BRUNSWICK, Maine - Thanks to an impressive performance in the opening weekend of the season, Bowdoin goaltender George Papachristopoulos (Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Que.) has been named NESCAC Player of the Week.
The junior netminder, who took over goaltending duties in the middle of last season, posted a .951 save percentage and allowed just three goals in two games as the Polar Bears went 1-0-1. Bowdoin took a 6-1 win over 14th-ranked New England College on Friday evening before posting a 2-2 tie against St. Anselm on Saturday. Papachristopoulos made 25 saves in the victory against the Pilgrims and followed it up with 33 stops, including three in overtime, against the Hawks on Saturday.
Bowdoin will return to action next Saturday when they host a doubleheader on day one of the Bowdoin-Colby Face-off Classic. Dayton Arena will host a neutral-site contest between Salve Regina and Colby at 3:30 on November 27 before Bowdoin plays an exhibition against the U.S. Under-18 team at 7:00 p.m. The teams will switch opponents and play at 2:00 (Bowdoin-Salve) and 5:30 (U.S. U-18-Colby) on Sunday.
