BRUNSWICK, Maine - The New England Small College Athletic Conference has named Bowdoin junior Steve Curwen (Milford, Conn.) as the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Curwen intercepted a pass four minutes into Saturday's contest at Middlebury and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown. It was the Polar Bears' first defensive score since November of 2001 against Bates. In addition to the interception, Curwen made six total tackles and a pass breakup.
Last season, Curwen posted 24 total tackles. The pick-off was the second of Curwen's career. He also had an interception his rookie season in a win against Hamilton. Bowdoin (0-1) will return to action next Saturday when they play their home-opener against Amherst.
