BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin first-year Emily Nelson (Pasadena, Calif.) earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors and was joined by teammate Gillian Stevens (New York, N.Y.) as First-Team All-Conference selections in voting released today. Sophomores Danielle Chagnon (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Megan Rodgers (St. Louis, Mo.) were named to the second team.
First-year Emily Nelson re-wrote the record books in her first season as a Polar Bear, tying the school record for single-season wins (12) and shattering the school mark for strikeouts (138). Her 0.74 earned run average also is a single-season record at Bowdoin. She also set the school mark and led the conference with three saves this season.
Gillian Stevens was also selected as a first-team member, leading the team and finishing ninth in the NESCAC with a .359 batting average this year. She also racked up a team-high 33 hits and was third in the conference with 13 walks.
Sophomore Danielle Chagnon took second-team honors by proving to be Bowdoin's most clutch hitter this year. Chagnon led the team in total bases (49), home runs (3), doubles (6), runs batted in (15) and slugging percentage (.450), while also leading the squad in runs scored (16).
Classmate and fellow second-team honoree Megan Rodgers was right with her teammate, placing second on the team in batting average (.349), slugging percentage (.435 ), on-base percentage (.366), hits (30) and runs batted in (14).
