BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College rookie softball pitcher Emily Nelson (Pasadena, Calif.) has been recognized as the NESCAC's Co-Player of the Week for her performance in four Bowdoin victories last week. The Polar Bears are 17-6 this season (3-1 in conference) and will play a key NESCAC doubleheader at Bates on Tuesday afternoon.
Nelson has established herself already as one of the premier pitchers in the conference and further proved her point by posting a 3-0 mark last week as the Polar Bears won four games and upped their winning streak to seven. The first-year hurler collected 17 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched to eclipse the school's single-season K-mark with 92 and allowed just eight hits and two runs all week, including just one walk. She came within one out of tossing a no-hitter against St. Joseph's on Saturday and also batted .400 for the week with a double.
For the season, Nelson is 9-1 with a microscopic 0.78 ERA.
