Women's Hockey Coaching Staff Honored

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Thanks to an unbeaten mark in January, and the nation's longest winning streak, the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey coaching staff has been named the American Hockey Coaches Association Division III women's "Coaching Staff of the Month."

Despite upending rivals Middlebury and Williams to start the season and ending 2003 with a top-10 ranking in the national polls, the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team entered the month of January at 3-3-1, having lost three of their last four games before break. Under the direction of head coach Kevin McGonagle and assistants Ali Kenney and Chris Pelletier, the Polar Bears celebrated the new year with a flourish, racking up a 10-0-0 mark in January and currently sitting number five in the national polls at 14-3-1. Bowdoin, who lost eight seniors and three All-Americans from last year's NCAA Semifinalist team, outscored opponents 83-9 during the streak and will return to action on February 10 at rival Colby and host NESCAC foes Williams and Middlebury on February 13-14.
