BRUNSWICK, Maine - Both Bowdoin hockey teams are ranked in the latest USCHO.com National Polls released on Monday. The Polar Bear women (2-3-1) dropped one spot to number five, while the men's squad (5-1-0) improved to number 11 in the nation.
The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team remained in the top five despite two losses last week. The ranking is a tribute to the Polar Bears' strength of schedule, as their three losses have come at the hands of second-ranked Plattsburgh, third-ranked Manhattanville and Division I Clarkson. Bowdoin's two wins came against sixth-ranked Middlebury and 10th-ranked Williams. The Polar Bears will host Southern Maine to close out their first semester on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bear men's ice hockey team is on a roll, having won four straight games including a key 6-3 win over arch-rival Colby last Tuesday night. Bowdoin followed it up with two strong performances over the weekend, defeating a tough Skidmore team 5-2 before thumping Castleton State 8-0. The Bowdoin men's team will not play again until December 27 when they face Curry in the Salem State Tournament.
