BRUNSWICK, Maine - The
New England Small College Athletic
Conference has announced their
All-Conference selections for baseball and
Bowdoin had two players selected.
Sophomore Jimmy Shea (Bangor, Maine) and
first-year Jared Lemieux (Readfield, Maine)
were both second-team All-NESCAC
selections, and Lemieux was tabbed as
NESCAC Rookie of the Year in a vote by the
league coaches. Bowdoin tied a school record
for wins in a season in 2003, going 17-15
overall.
Lemieux stepped in as a rookie to take over centerfield duties for the Polar Bears and had a stellar rookie campaign. The first-year hit .325 with six homers and led Bowdoin with 35 runs scored out of the leadoff position in the batting order. The Maranacook graduate started all 31 games he played in and was second on the squad in total bases (67) and walks (11), while not making a single error in the field all year. His highlight of the season was a two-homer game against Colby on May 3.
Jimmy Shea came into his own as a sophomore, batting .409 to lead the Polar Bears this spring. His 45 hits and .476 on-base percentage were tops on the team and his 27 runs scored placed him second on the squad. The Bangor graduate also led Bowdoin with seven stolen bases on the year. In addition to being named All-NESCAC, Shea was honored as a third-team selection on the All-New England team, chosen by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association.
