BRUNSWICK, Maine - The second-ranked Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team continues to roll, winning two games last week, and sophomore Marissa O'Neil (Manchester, N.H.) was honored as the NESCAC Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts. The Polar Bears are currently 16-0-2 on the year and are the only undefeated team in any division of college hockey.
O'Neil started the week with a bang, tallying her second career hat trick in a 6-2 win over St. Thomas (Minn.) last Monday. She scored the game-winner in Bowdoin's 3-2 exhibition win over the North American Hockey Academy on Friday night and assisted on another goal in the Polar Bears' 3-2 victory over Plattsburgh State on Sunday afternoon. The award marks the third time that O'Neil has been tabbed as NESCAC Player of the Week, as she also picked up the honor for the week of December 9th and January 6.
The Polar Bears begin the homestretch of their season in control of their postseason destiny. Bowdoin has five remaining conference games and is in the driver's seat to be the top seed in the NESCAC for the conference tournament which begins March 1. The first place team in the conference receives a first-round bye and the right to host the semifinals and championship on March 8 and 9. Bowdoin will host arch-rival Colby on Wednesday evening in Dayton Arena before traveling to Amherst and Hamilton this weekend. The Polar Bears will close out their regular season with a crucial home weekend against Middlebury and Williams on February 21-22.
