BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's ice hockey senior Shelly Chessie (Fredericton, N.B.) was tabbed as USCHO.com's National Offensive Player of the Week on Thursday, in addition to being named NESCAC Player of the Week on Monday for her play in three Bowdoin victories. The Polar Bears currently stand at 13-0-2 and are ranked second in the latest national poll. After the Norwich men were defeated last weekend, the Polar Bear women are the lone unbeaten team in any division of college hockey.
Chessie collected a hat trick in Bowdoin's mid-week victory over Southern Maine, 8-0. On Friday, she had a hand in every Polar Bear goal, tallying a goal and two assists in a 3-1 win over Connecticut College. She capped off her week by dishing out three assists in a 7-1 win over Conn. on Saturday.
Chessie has established herself as one of the premier players in the nation, as well as one of the best players in school history. Her career total of 160 points places her only six points shy of the school record of 166, set by Carol Thomas. She already holds the school mark with 83 career assists, and is in second place on the Bowdoin all-time goal-scorers list with 77 in her career, 17 behind Thomas.
Bowdoin will host a pair of non-conference tilts against western schools Concordia (Saturday) and St. Thomas (Monday).
