BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior women's basketball captain Kristi Royer (Lewiston, Maine) was honored on Monday as both the New England Small College Athletic Conference, New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week for her performances in three Polar Bear wins. The Bowdoin women's basketball squad is currently 15-1 and ranks seventh in the latest national poll.
Royer averaged a double-double as Bowdoin took three road wins over NESCAC foes. Kristi scored 13 points and grabbed nine boards in her hometown in a mid-week win at Bates. On Friday night, she posted 11 points and 10 boards in limited action in a blowout win at Connecticut College. Finally on Saturday, in a battle with Wesleyan for first place in the conference, Royer was unstoppable, scoring 28 points and notching 14 rebounds in a 12-point victory. For the week, she averaged 17.3 points and 11 rebounds per contest. She connected on 52% of her shots from the field and made 89% (17-19) from the free-throw line.
Bowdoin will return home this weekend to host NESCAC rivals Williams (7:00 on Friday) and Middlebury (2:00 on Saturday).
