BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team is off to a hot start this season, and received more good news on Monday as sophomore Marissa O'Neil was named NESCAC Player of the Week. The Polar Bears are ranked second in the latest national poll and are 6-0-1 on the season.
O'Neil earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors for the second straight time after posting two goals in a comeback win at Southern Maine on December 11. O'Neil also tallied a goal in Bowdoin's 6-2 victory over Canadian school John Abbott on Saturday.
The Manchester, N.H. native has emerged as one of the premier players in the nation in her second season with Bowdoin. She currently leads the team with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists this season. Her 2.0 points per game average places her fifth overall in the nation. For her career, she has averaged over a point per game in her 34 contests, scoring 20 goals and dishing out 22 assists.
Bowdoin returns to action on January 11 when they travel to play at Trinity College.
