BRUNSWICK, Maine - Weekly polls were released on Tuesday for men's hockey, women's hockey and women's basketball, and Bowdoin College was well represented. In the USCHO.com national poll, the Bowdoin men's ice hockey team stood fourth, while the women were second. In the D3hoops.com national poll, the women's basketball team stood second as well.
The men's ice hockey team emerged unscathed from a brutal stretch that saw them play five games in seven days. The Polar Bears remained one of two unbeaten teams in the poll at 6-0-0, with the other being top-ranked Norwich. With decisions over Curry, Colby, Skidmore and Mass. College last week, the Polar Bears rose one spot in the national poll and will return to action in the Salem State Tournament on December 27-28.
The women's ice hockey team garnered three first-place votes thanks to another tie by top-ranked Elmira, but held steady at number two in the nation. Sophomore Marissa O'Neil was tabbed as NESCAC Player of the Week for her three-goal, two-assist performance in two conference wins over Hamilton and Amherst last weekend. Bowdoin will close out their first semester with a game at Southern Maine on Wednesday night.
The women's basketball team rose from third to second in the nation after an impressive win over Southern Maine last Tuesday. Bowdoin also defeated W.P.I last weekend and received two first-place votes. The Polar Bears have one more game before winter break, at Colby-Sawyer on Thursday evening.
