BRUNSWICK, Maine -
The Bowdoin College men's and women's ice
hockey teams hosted community members in Sunday's annual "Skate With
The Polar Bears" food drive. The was held in Bowdoin's Dayton Arena, with the cost of admission being one
non-perishable food item or paper product for
the local food bank.
"This time of year, around the holidays, is
when people really need it the most,"
according to men's ice hockey coach Terry
Meagher. "Food banks' supplies start to
dwindle and they are sorely in need of
non-perishable food items and paper goods,
like paper towels and napkins. It's really a
win-win situation for us because it gives our
players a chance to meet members of the
community, especially the young athletes, and
it also gives us a chance to give back a little
something to the area. Traditionally, it's a
wonderful time for everyone involved."
The Polar Bears men's and women's teams are a combined 11-0-1 coming into Sunday, with the women ranked second in the nation and the men ranked fifth.
