All-NESCAC Cross-Country Team


BRUNSWICK, Maine - The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced their All-Conference selections for Men's and Women's Cross Country on Friday and Bowdoin College collected numerous honors.

Head Coach Peter Slovenski won the men's coach of the year award after leading the Polar Bears to their second straight NESCAC title, while senior Pat Vardaro (Norwood, Mass.) earned first-team honors by placing fifth last weekend at the NESCAC Championship meet. Seniors Jeff Rubens (Wilmette, Ohio), Scott Barbuto (Brunswick, N.Y.) and Todd Forsgren (Bay Village, Ohio) all earned second-team recognition by finishing 8-10, respectively. Slovenski won the coach of the year award for the third straight season.

Two Polar Bears earned All-NESCAC recognition in the women's race as senior Elizabeth Barney (Troy, Ohio) and Ellen Beth (Holden, Mass.) took second-team honors. Barney took 12th place at the NESCAC Championships, while Beth placed 13th overall. The Polar Bears finished third at the Championship Meet held at Tufts University last weekend.
