Women's Hoops Ranked Second In Preseason Poll

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team, fresh off a school-best 26-2 mark in 2001-02, will begin the new season by equaling last years' highest ranking- number two in the nation. released their pre-season poll on Friday and the Polar Bears found themselves ranked second in the country, behind Washington (Mo.) University. Bowdoin returns four of five starters from the '01-'02 team that reached the Elite Eight by defeating Emmanuel and Springfield in the NCAA Tournament. The Polar Bears went 8-1 in NESCAC play last season, en route to their second straight conference title.

Bowdoin winter sports teams are allowed to open practice on November 1, in accordance with NESCAC rules, and the Polar Bears will open their regular season on November 23, when they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to compete in the Skidmore Invitational against Western Connecticut.
