BRUNSWICK, Maine - In an article
featured in Thursday?s edition of USA Today,
Bowdoin College ranks among the best Division III institutions in student-athlete graduation
rate. In the article, on page 7C of the
September 26, 2002 issue, the Polar Bear
athletic department places third among D-III schools with a 94% graduation rate.
Rankings in the survey are determined by federal graduation-rate forms used by schools in Divisions I and II. They are for freshmen who entered in the fall of 1995 and had six years to graduate. Each school offering athletic scholarships is required to complete these forms annually. In Division I, Ivy League schools and service academies are exempt because they don't offer athletic aid. They aren't included in this survey. There are 325 Division I and 270 Division II schools.
Division III schools cannot provide scholarships and therefore do not complete grad-rate forms. These schools were asked to voluntarily participate in this survey.
