Two Football Players Earn All-Nescac Honors

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced their Football All-Star selections this afternoon, and Bowdoin College was honored with two second-team selections. The Polar Bears finished the year with a 1-7 record.

Defensive Lineman and senior tri-captain Leroy Gaines (Holyoke, Mass.) and senior offensive lineman Mike Mulholland (Hillsdale, N.J.) were both honored as second-team All-NESCAC choices for the first time in their careers. Mulholland, a former standout at Bergen Catholic in New Jersey, was the core of an offensive line that averaged 148.9 rushing yards per game this season. Gaines was the heart of a young defense for the Polar Bears this season and had the best year of his career, totalling 47 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on the year. Gaines was a standout performer at Northfield-Mt. Hermon prep school before attending Bowdoin.
