BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College softball team broke the school record for wins in a season with 25 victories in 2002 and was rewarded on Thursday with several All-NESCAC selections. The Polar Bears had two players earn first-team honors, while three others were second- team selections.
Senior first-baseman Kristi Miller (New Canaan, Conn.) holds nearly every offensive record at Bowdoin, and earned her second straight first-team All-NESCAC after hitting a team- high .398 with three homers and 25 RBI's. Junior Kristi Royer (Lewiston, Maine), also a first-team All-NESCAC in basketball, took first team honors with a .396 average and a team-high 12 stolen bases.
Making the second team from Bowdoin were senior pitcher Jessie Poulin (Hampden, Maine) who was 12-4 with a 1.69 ERA this season. Senior catcher Katie Sheridan (Marblehead, Mass.) also made second team All-NESCAC after batting .358 and playing outstanding defense behind the plate. Senior third-baseman Emily Rizza (Pennington, N.J.) was also selected for the second squad after a solid campaign that featured a .290 average and great play at the hot corner.
