BRUNSWICK, Maine - Two Bowdoin College athletes were named NESCAC Player of the Week for their outstanding performances last week. Senior men's lacrosse player Josh Allen (Saugus, Mass.) and sophomore softball pitcher Erin Hanley (Foxboro, Mass.) were both honored as their teams continued to roll.
Men's lacrosse captain Josh Allen collected a hat trick in two wins last week, including an upset over the number one team in the nation, Middlebury, 9-8. The Polar Bears broke the Panthers' nation-high 21-game win streak and now control their own destiny for post-season play. At 4-1 in NESCAC play, Bowdoin holds the tie-breaker over Middlebury (5-1 in NESCAC) for first place. Allen scored three goals in a win at New England College before posting three more against Middlebury. He currently has a team-high 23 goals and five assists this year.
Sophomore Hanley picked up two wins last week over Plymouth State and Husson. In game two of a doubleheader against Plymouth State on Monday, Hanley tossed a no-hitter in a 5-0 win. It was the third no-hitter in school history. Later in the week, Hanley gave up six hits in a 3-0 shutout win over Husson. Overall, she is 4-3 with a stellar 1.64 ERA this season. Bowdoin is 16-7-1 on the year.
