Maria Nicolais returns this year as a sophomore from Syracuse, New York. In her senior year of high school she was Most Valuable Player in her physical education class. She played for the Syracuse Stars as a defenseman. Freshman year at Bowdoin, Maria scored two goals and had two assists and won the team's Seventh Player Award. She plans to major in Biochemistry and go into Pre-Medicine. One of Maria's hockey superstitions is filling up the water bottles with teammate, Kate Pokrass, before the games. A First-Team All-American field hockey stats guru and bookkeeper, Nicolais chose Bowdoin for its beautiful campus, great academics, and a wonderful hockey squad.
