Nick Crawford began skiing at the age of 3. His parents own and run Stump Sprouts, a year round outdoor center. He began skiing competitively in 7th grade and has been steadily stepping up his level of competition since. Both he and his sister Kate attended the Mohawk Trail Regional High School, Kate went on to ski for UVM.
The focus that skiing competitively in college has brought to Nick's life and the close ties he has developed with his teammates and competitors on other teams alike are, he believes, some of the best things he has taken away from the sport. This year he has his eyes set on qualifying for the junior olympics, and his long term goals are qualifying for NCAAs and making an appearance at the 2010 olympics in some context even if it is "just as the guy grooming the course".
The funniest moment in Nick's sking career was "wiping out at the Stowe Derby... I was out in the small trees phase off the course." His shining moment was the 2006 Vermont Academy Eastern Cup 15k classic where he finished 22nd. His least favorite thing about skiing is the travel time, which he addresses by napping heavily in the vans.
