Study Away

Studying abroad is an important component of many Bowdoin students' education. These guidelines should help students coordinate their major programs with plans to study away.

  • One off-campus history course per semester will count toward the history major.

  • In exceptional cases, students may petition to receive credit for more than one course per semester.

  • In all cases, a maximum of three history courses taken away from Bowdoin can count toward the history major, but no more than two can count toward the field of concentration.

  • Minors may count one course a semester, for a maximum of two for a year away.
