This is old copy and needs updating to reflect reality in the CMS
You probably came to this section because you want your web page to look better. More importantly, you want information to be easy to find.
First consider how you can better organize the content on your page and then think about additional styling that might be helpful.

More than just a larger font. Headers should be used to define your page's organizational structure. Well-written and descriptive headers will inform visitors about the content on your page and help them to navigate it. Effective header tags will even increase your site ranking on some search engines.
<h1> On the Bowdoin website, <h1> tags are used exclusively for the heading at the top of the page (i.e. Information Technology at the top of this page).

Font type: Font type cannot be changed on Bowdoin web pages (i.e. changed to Times New Roman, Comic Sans, etc.) The font on all Bowdoin web pages is defaulted to Verdana to provide consistency and readability throughout the site.
Font size: The size of the font is set in the browser according to a user's preference. For example, in Netscape on Windows, go to View >> Text Zoom and choose the relative size of the text you'd like the page to display in. At 100%, the default font size is 12 pixels.
Small font: It is possible to make a section of text smaller relative to the default text size. Here is an example of smaller text.
Use bold and italicized text for emphasis. Italicized text is sometimes difficult to read on computer screens so use it judiciously.
By default, text on the Bowdoin site is left-aligned. Follow the instructions below to center or right-align text.

You can use the Styles menu in the CMS to highlight text. Simply select the text you wish to highlight and choose "yellow-highlight" or "red-highlight" from the Styles menu.
