Getting screened for STI's and learning how to prevent them is an important part of taking responsibility for your health. At Health Services, we offer free screening tests for women and men. We take medical confidentiality very seriously. All medical records are confidential. We do not share information with parent's, friend's, professor's or college administrator's unless you give us permission. Call 725-3770 if you have questions or would like to set up an appointment for an STI screening.
For women:
We encourage all sexually active women to be screened for chlamydia and gonorrhea when they come in for an annual pap smear's as well as an evaluation for pelvic pain or vaginal discharge. Screening is important because women often do not have symptoms from these infections. This is especially the case with chlamydia, which can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. The test is simple to do (q-tip like swab to the cervix) and results are available usually within 5 to 7 days. There is also a urine test for screening and it does not require a GYN exam. Another STI called herpes is often diagnosed by visual inspection or by culture. HPV (human papillomavirus) is diagnosed by visual inspection or by Pap smear.
For men:
We offer a non-invasive urine test to screen for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Other STIs, such as herpes and HPV (human papillomavirus) are often diagnosed by visual inspection or by culture.
