Vertebrate Origins
We are also interested in how the defining features of the vertebrate body plan evolved. For instance, is the hindbrain a vertebrate evolutionary innovation or was it inherited wholly or in part from an ancestor? We will be conducting comparative developmental genetics studies in invertebrate chordates (tunicates and amphioxus) to help answer such questions.
