I liked my first-year seminar called the "Invention of Africa", which looked at popular culture conception of Africa and traced its roots to slave trade and colonialism. I like it because we could use a broad range of materials to talk about-from the theoretical pieces, the philosophers, to a videotape of the WWF and an art exhibit.
Professor Stakeman is back from a semester abroad, which he spent in South Africa, setting up a study abroad program in Capetown.
