Kristen R. Ghodsee's research focuses on women, economic development and transition, and the legacies of socialist feminism. Her articles have been published in journals such as Signs, Gender and Women's Studies Quarterly, The International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society and L'Homme: Zeitschrift für Feministische Geschichtswissenschaft. She recently presented: “The Armageddon of Big Ideas: Historical Materialism, Post-Modernism and the Triumph of Dystopias” at Bowdoin Common Hour.
Fields: Women in Development, Education in Developing Economies, Human Capital Theory, Social Stratification
Research Interests: Women's labor in transition economies, tourism and economic development, women's nongovernmental organizations in developing and transitioning economies, gender in alternative state formations, and resurgent Muslim identities in the postsocialist Balkans.
