Spanish 209: Songs

The Spanish Songs are .mp3 files and can be used with various plug-ins, including QuickTime. If you get a broken symbol you will want to configure your computer so that the audio controls load directly onto the screen. Both browsers, Netscape and Internet Explorer, may prompt you to download the appropriate QuickTime application which includes the player and the plugin.
Netscape 4.7x:
Open Netscape.
On the Edit menu, select Preferences.
Under Navigator, choose Applications.
Scroll down and look for MP3 audio file.
This should be handled by the latest QuickTime plugin.
If after scrolling through the long list of applications you do not see the mp3 option, you will want to create a new one.
Click on the new button beneath the list of applications. A box will appear asking for description, mime type, and suffix for the file type. In the description box, type in MP3 audio. In the MIME type box, type in audio/mpeg3. In the suffix box, type in mp3. Then select the QuickTime plugin from the drop-down menu next to the plugin radio box to handle the .mp3 files. Click ok.
After configuring your browser, return to any of the Spanish Songs and reload the page. You may need to close the browser and restart.
Internet Explorer:
Open Internet Explorer.
On the Edit menu, select Preferences.
Under Receiving Files, choose File Helpers. The list of applications that your browsers uses will appear on the right of the preferences window.
Scroll down and look for mp3 audio file.
This should be handled by the latest QuickTime plugin. The extension should be .mp3 and the MIME type should be audio/mpeg3.

Click on the add button beneath the list of applications. A box will appear asking for description, extension, mime type, etc. In the description box, type in MP3 audio file. In the extension box, type in .mp3. In the MIME type box, type in audio/mpeg3. You will want to select the QuickTime Player as the application. You may need to browse for this. Make the file type mp3. In the handling section, you want to select "view with plugin" from the drop-down menu. Then select QuickTime plugin from the next drop-down menu. Click ok.
After configuring your browser, return to any of the Spanish Songs and reload the page. You may need to close the browser and restart.
