The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for the administration of the College's fleet of ten 7-passenger minivans, one 12-passenger van, one King Cab 4x4 truck and one Honda Civic Hybrid, all of which are available for rental by student organizations, faculty and staff. Vehicle maintenance and safety inspections are the responsibility of the Facilities Management Department in conjunction with the Fleet Scheduler.
Due to the limited number of fleet vehicles, the College is unable to accommodate every request. Fleet vehicles are available for use by academic departments, administrative departments and student organizations in order to facilitate College academic, business and student life needs. Bowdoin College motor vehicles may be used for official College business only. Official College business includes community service transportation, academic class trips/projects/needs, administrative trips, authorized student groups and clubs and intercollegiate athletics.
To supplement its fleet, the College rents passenger vans from local vendors. During peak seasons the college may have additional rental vehicles on campus. Please call the Fleet Scheduler for availability. For safety reasons, the College will no longer permit the renting of 15-passenger vans by students, faculty, or staff. Any exception to this policy must be approved in writing by Ted Stam, Director of Facilities Operations and Maintenance (tstam@bowdoin.edu), or his designee and his signature or that of his designee must be present on an Authorization to Drive form.
