Testing and Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting:

All public school educators in the State of Maine are required to register fingerprints with the state police. To schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted, go to http://www.identogo.com/
** Once you are fingerprinted, you will need to complete this form to receive a Fingerprint Authorization Card. It is an additional $15 charge, but many districts require it for substitute teaching applications and/or practicum registration.
Please be sure to schedule your fingerprint registration appointment for at least six weeks before the start of your practicum in order to ensure it is processed before you begin.
Additional information regarding the Maine Department of Education’s Fingerprint requirements can be found at: http://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting/

Praxis Testing:
You will need to take and pass the Core Academic Skills for Educators and Praxis II tests. Core Academic Skills for Educators is a 3-part test consisting of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Praxis II is a content knowledge test. You can take these tests at any time, but please plan to take them before mid-April. If you take them after April, it will likely delay your application for certification at the end of the semester. To register, visit www.ets.org/praxis

**NOTE: you do NOT need to take the PLT (Principles of Learning and Teaching ) test--you completed this requirement by taking ED3301/3302

Additional information regarding test preparation can also be found at http://www.ets.org/praxis/prepare/materials. If you do not pass a particular test, you may retake it.
