The Casco Bay Project: Bringing Research into the Classroom

This project engages Bowdoin College undergraduate students in research on the Casco Bay Region of Maine. The region's geology includes felsic and mafic volcanics, pelites, and limestones that have undergone deformation and have been variably metamophosed from chlorite to sillimanite grade.

Bowdoin Geology Students

The project incorporates petrological, geochemical, structural, and geochronologic research into the following five courses:

  • Introduction to Physical Geology
  • Mineralogy
  • Structural Geology
  • Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology
  • Mountain Belts
