Summer Employment Opportunities in Admissions! (Carla Mahaney)

Did you know that the admissions office has paid summer internships? The students who fill these positions are responsible for what are arguably the most important summer duties our office performs: interviewing prospective students, providing information sessions for visiting students and their families, giving campus tours, corresponding with prospective students, and providing valuable administrative support in all areas.

For many prospective students and their families, the contact with these student interns will determine their opinions about Bowdoin and its student body. We are therefore seeking applicants with a variety of skills including: excellent written and oral communication skills, maturity and sensitivity, ability to relate to people from all walks of life, superior attention to detail, and the ability to think quickly. Because the hours and responsibilities of this job are demanding, a candidate would also need a high energy level, flexibility, a good sense of humor, and the ability to interact well with co-workers. Broad knowledge of Bowdoin's academic and extracurricular opportunities is also required.

There are two different positions:
1. Admissions Intern
This position is open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors. The primary responsibilities of the Admissions Intern I will be leading daily campus tours and participating with counselors in daily information sessions for prospective students and their families. In addition to these responsibilities, interns will also answer telephones, have receptionist duties, and assist with mailings and file room projects.

2. Senior Interviewer/Intern
This position is open to rising seniors only. The primary responsibilities of the Senior Interviewer will be interviewing, evaluating, and recommending prospective students for admission to the Class of 2018. In addition to interviewing, interns will be responsible for participating with counselors in daily information sessions for prospective students, leading campus tours, answering telephones, receptionist duties, and assisting with mailings and file room projects.

The application and transcript release form can be found on ebear. Applications are due to by 5:00pm on Thursday, February 14, 2013. Interviews will be conducted the week of February 18, 2013.
