Deadline TUESDAY: Sponsor a Family (Luke Mondello)

Sponsor-A-Family is a volunteer effort organized by The Salvation Army to provide holiday assistance to families in need. The Salvation Army is a Christian organization, but they welcome all low-income families seeking holiday assistance to join the program, regardless of religion.

In 2011, Bowdoin College sponsored over 30 families with the help of athletic teams, proctor and RA groups, college houses, student groups, academic departments, college offices, and individuals.

YOUR COMMITMENT: As a sponsor group, you will be matched with a local family that has requested assistance, and you will receive their “wish list”, which provides information about the children’s interests, hobbies, age, clothes sizes, and gift wishes. Sponsors are then expected to provide:
• Three or more new gifts for each child
• A new outfit for each child
• A holiday dinner (supermarket gift certificate) for the family
• Additional family gifts for the parents or entire family are also welcomed, but optional

THE PROCESS: Once you have decided to participate, you will submit contact information for your group and let us know the size of the family you are interested in sponsoring. We will send this info to The Salvation Army and they will match you with an appropriate family. As soon as you are matched with a family, we will email you their info so that you can begin to prepare the gifts. The sooner you send the below information, the sooner we can match you with a family.
