“Remembering the Civil War”

The Bowdoin College Concert Band, under the direction of John P. Morneau, will perform its annual Fall Concert program on Sunday, November 24, at 2:00pm in Studzinski Hall on the Bowdoin Campus. The theme for this performance is “Remembering the Civil War.” The concert will not only feature Civil War related music from the Concert Band, but also guest appearances by members of the 3rd Maine Regiment (Civil War reenactment soldiers), singer/songwriter Josephine Cameron, Professor Davis Robinson, and Kaity Newell, fiddle, and Carter Newell, accordian.

Among the concert selections will be: American Civil War Fantasy – Jerry Bilik; When Johnny Comes Marching Home – arranged by Brandon Ridenour and Michael Brown; Fantasia on Aura Lee – Ira Hearshen; Marching Through Georgia – arranged by John Philip Sousa; GETTYSBURG: The Third Day – Jay Dawson; To Heal A Nation - The Gettysburg Address (Professor of Theater, Davis Robison, Narrator) – James Hosay, and; The Battle Hymn of the Republic – setting by Peter Wilhousky. Throughout the concert, cameo performances by Josephine Cameron and Kaity and Carter Newell will take place. The 3rd Maine Regiment will perform a demonstration of “A Day in the Life of a Camp Musician,” as well as taking part in the opening and closing portions of the program.

Memorabilia of/from the Civil War will also be on display in the lobby before, during and after the performance.

The concert is open to anyone inside and outside the Bowdoin College community. Admission for the concert is FREE.
