"Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea" open at the Museum of Art on Saturday (Suzanne Bergeron)

"Maurice Prendergast: By the Sea," the first retrospective of Maurice Prendergast's work in twenty-three years, opens at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art on Saturday. This major exhibition follows the artist's most important subject - seaside harbors, beaches, resorts, and villages - through the major changes in style and historical context of the early twentieth century, thus illuminating Prendergast's originality within the broader development of modern American art and culture.

Plan to join in the celebration.
