Coastal Studies and other fellowships support collaborative efforts between faculty and students working on original research projects involving coastal peoples and environments. Funding Sources
Rusack Fellowships
- The Rusack Fellowships, made possible through the generous donation of Geoffrey Rusack ('78) and Alison Wrigley Rusack, will support six students engaged in summer research at the Coastal Studies Center and adjacent areas during 2004. The fellowships are open to students in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences who are involved in projects that provide new insight and understanding into the multiple facets of coastal studies. Each Rusack Fellow participates in a project under the direction of a faculty member(s) who is independently interested in the area under study.
Doherty Fellowships
- These fellowships are funded by an endowment. It was established by the Henry L. and Grace Doherty Charitable Foundation, has been supported by several donors, and is a fund that supports student research in marine and coastal studies.
All application materials should go directly to Dean of Academic Affairs, (check the student fellowship web page for application deadlines). Review of the applications will go through the Coastal Studies Center Advisory Committee and the Faculty Resources Committee.
Stipends and Research Support
The stipend for fellowships is typically $3,200 for full-time research over eight weeks of the summer or part-time research during the academic year. In addition, a housing allowance of $200 covers the cost of college housing for summer projects. Requests of up to $500 to cover expenses (e.g., laboratory supplies, analytical costs, and travel beyond the local area to do field work) will be considered as part of the award.
