Coastal Studies Research Funding

Deadlines to apply: January 14, 2010 and April 15, 2010

Phocas Family Awards for Research in Coastal Studies: A gift from the Phocas Family Foundation and George A. Phocas '90 is available for faculty research on coastal and marine issues.

Faculty members are encouraged to submit proposals to the Faculty Development Committee even if their projects (scholarly or artistic) are in the early stages of development. Collaborative proposals between faculty and staff are welcome. The fund is aimed at initiating work in the summer but projects taking place during the academic year will also be considered. Faculty from the arts, humanities and social sciences are especially encouraged to apply. Award limit is $4000; collaborative proposals may be funded up to $7,000.

Rusack Fund for Coastal Studies: These awards are made possible through the generous gift of Geoffrey C. Rusack '78 and Alison Wrigley Rusack.  Faculty are invited to submit proposals for funding in support of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and creative work on questions, issues and concerns relating to coastal peoples, cultures, environments or organisms.  Rusack awards of up to $4,000 support projects that take place at the Coastal Studies Center and surrounding areas as well as coastal locales outside of Maine that draw comparisons to this region.  Applications should be submitted to the Faculty Development Committee.
