Pre-Law Advising at Bowdoin

Introduction

Choosing to go to law school, like applying to colleges, can be a challenging process, requiring a considerable investment of time and energy on the part of the potential applicant. The Legal Studies Advisory Group (LSAG) at Bowdoin assists students with the task of deciding if a legal career is right for them, and if so, what steps need to be taken to gain admittance to the school of their choice. Through its rigorous curricular offerings, Bowdoin has a distinguished record of preparing students for future study at law schools throughout the country.

The LSAG is comprised of five members: Sherry Fowler, Pre-Law Advisor in the Career Planning Center; Richard Morgan and Allen Springer from the Department of Government and Legal Studies; Wil Smith, Office of Dean of Student Affairs and law school graduate; and George Isaacson, Esq., an alumnus in private practice who also teaches law courses on an adjunct basis at Bowdoin. Members of this group are available to students and alumni/ae for advice on targeting schools of interest, taking the LSAT, writing personal statements, obtaining letters of recommendation, securing financial aid, and making other important decisions involved in the pursuit of a legal education and career.

Bowdoin is affiliated with the Northeast Association for Pre-Law Advisors (NAPLA), which keeps its members informed about trends in the admissions process and the legal profession. The Legal Studies Advisory Group is also invited to participate in numerous site visits at law schools throughout the country each year.
