Summer Grants

Thomas A. McKinley '06 Grant Summer Entrepreneurial/Community Service Grant

The Grants are made possible by the generous gift of Thomas A. McKinley '06. Offered for the first time in the 2005-2006 academic year, these grants support Bowdoin students who are pursuing either significant entrepreneurial experiences or community service projects of their own design, anywhere in the world, in the summer after their sophomore year.

The Summer Entrepreneurial/Community Service Grant is open to all Bowdoin sophomores for the purpose of assisting students in pursuing interesting, provocative, and entrepreneurial summer projects, with the intent of having a direct and lasting impact on many generations of Bowdoin students. The stipend for the summer experience will cover all related costs up to $5,000.

Deadline

The deadline for student application for the 2008 grant is noon on February 15, 2008. If you are interested, please download an application. Applications should be submitted to the Bowdoin Career Planning Center, 4900 College Station, Brunswick, Maine 04011.

Qualifications

Sophomores who will be returning to Bowdoin in the fall following their project are eligible. Proposed projects will typically fill the bulk of the summer.

The Fellowship Award

The intention of the Summer Entrepreneurial/Community Service Grant is to help defray living expenses, travel costs, and other out-of-pocket expenses associated with a project. The total grant shall take into consideration the above factors as well as a student's financial aid package, which requires summer earning contributions, if applicable. However, financial need is not a criterion for selection. More than one grant may be given, but the intention is to fund projects fully rather than to make several awards for partial funding. Individual grants are not likely to exceed $5,000 for the summer.
