Mock Interview Program

"The mock interview was great for 'getting the bugs out' and a good overall dry run. Thanks!"

A mock interview allows you to "role play" a job interview on videotape and receive constructive feedback from a trained mock interviewer. The session lasts an hour and a half. This is plenty of time for you to be interviewed, review the video, and discuss how you did with your interviewer.

Contact Laurie Sweetman at lsweetma@bowdoin.edu or x3717 to see which mock interviewer is available and best suited to interview you. Out of respect for our mock interviewers busy schedules, you should be in contact with Laurie at least one week before you would like to have your interview.

The Career Planning Center also regularly invites alumni and recruiters to offer practice interviews when they are on campus. In the past year, this included professionals from public relations, consulting, finance, and government affairs. These are publicized through the eBEAR calendar.

In preparation for your mock interview, please:

  1. When you contact Laurie to set up your mock interview, she will expect that you have done the following:
    • Prepared your résumé
    • Researched the area and organization with which you'll be applying.
    • Prepared for your interview.  Tools that may help you do that include the reading the First Round Interviewing tipsheet, attending an interviewing workshop, and meeting with a Career Advisor.
  2. To confirm your interview, email your résumé (required), position description (recommended), and cover letter (recommended) to your interviewer or Laurie
  3. Dress for your mock interview as if it is an actual interview.
  4. Arrive for your interview 5-10 minutes early before its scheduled start.
