Employee Payment Options

Option 1 - Direct Deposit to a Personal Bank Account: If you have a personal checking or savings account, your pay will be delivered to that account via direct deposit every payday.

Option 2 - Money Network® Service (1-800-845-8683): If you do not have a personal bank account or you prefer the Money Network® Service, your pay will be loaded directly into your Money Network® Account every payday.  Please note that fees may apply depending on how your withdraw your funds; please refer to the Fee Schedule for guidance.  Your Money Network® packet will be sent to you through campus mail by Human Resources with steps for activation.  IMPORTANT:  To avoid fees, it is best to use your Money Network® card as a CREDIT instead of a DEBIT.   If you do not have any deposits from Bowdoin for 180 days, your Money Network Paycard will be converted to a reloadable general purpose prepaid card (portable account); upon conversion a $4.95 monthly account maintenance fee will be applied.

To select your option, please print the Direct Deposit/Money Network Authorization Form and send the completed form to the Human Resources Department.

Money Network® Service FAQ's:

Is there a cost to use the Money Network® Service?

While Money Network® does provide many services and types of transactions free-of-charge, there are some activities that may incur a fee.   Please refer to the fee schedule in the Welcome Packet you received with your Money Network® Card and Money Network™ Checks.

Where can I access my funds without incurring a fee?

The easy answer is at any Bank of America ATM and branch.  To locate BoA locations and other In-network options, login to www.bankofamerica.com/moneynetwork, click on “Locate Bank of America ATMs and Branches” link of “Locate ATMs/Banks/Stores” link, enter Address, Zip, City or State to find a convenient ATM.

What method (debit vs. credit) should I use when purchasing items at a store (e.g., Hannaford)?

This is a great question because the method as to how you use the Money Network® card will determine if you pay a fee or not.  We recommend that you swipe the card as a CREDIT and SIGN for the purchase; you WILL incur a fee if you swipe the card as a DEBIT and enter a PIN.

Where can I use my Money Network® card?

You can use the Money Network® card at virtually any ATM and wherever Visa®, MasterCard®, Discover® or STAR® are accepted.  To avoid any surprises, we recommend referring to the fee schedule prior to using an ATM.

Do I have to pay a sign-up fee to use the Money Network® Service?

No.  Bowdoin provides this option at no charge to the employee.

How will I know my balance or when funds have been added to my Money Network® account?

How do I sign up for the Money Network® Program?

Complete and submit the Direct Deposit/Money Network Authorization Form to Human Resources Office.  Within 10 – 14 days you will receive a Money Network® Welcome Packet at your department or SU box (students); the packet will include 3 Money Network™ checks, 1 Money Network® Visa® Paycard, How-To Guide, fee schedule, terms and conditions, and a privacy policy.  Once you activate the card and the Controller’s Office loads your payroll funds onto the card, you can use the card.

How do I activate my card?

You will need to call the Customer Service number indicated on the activation sticker on the front of your card; the number is also indicated on the back of your card.  Follow the automated voice that prompts your PIN set-up.  Once the PIN is set, the card and Money Network checks are activated for use.

Will I get a new Money Network® card and Money Network™ checks each time I get paid?

No.  Your pay is deposited into your Account every payday.  You can use your existing Paycard or Checks to access the money in your Account at any time.  If you run out of checks, you can obtain a new supply from the Controller’s Office or through the Money Network® Service at no charge.

What is a preauthorization and can I prevent it from happening?

A preauthorization is a temporary hold on a specific amount of your available balance and is used by merchants when authorizing electronic transactions.  This will typically occur during gas purchases and the hold is generally released within three days.

More information about preauthorization including the most common types of merchants that use them, are available within the FAQ's section on the Money Network® website.  You can also call the customer service number on your Money Network® card.

Can I use my Money Network® card at the gas station?

Yes.  Although, we recommend that you give your Money Network® card to the gas station attendant to pre-pay for gas and avoid a pre-authorization.  As with most debit cards, if you pay at the pump, merchants will pre-authorize your purchase and place a “hold” on a set dollar amount on your Account that is higher than the actual purchase amount.  The balance is released once the payment is processed, which can take up to three days.

What if my Money Network® card is lost or stolen?

Report your lost card immediately by contacting the Money Network® Program.  Please note that there is a $6.00 charge for a replacement card.  If you need immediate access to your funds while you wait for your replacement card to arrive, just follow the instructions to write a Money Network® check in your name and cash it for free at participating locations.

Can I use a PIN of my own choice?

Yes.  You can use any four-digit number you choose.

What should I do if I forget my PIN?

Call the Customer Service number on the back of your card.  Follow the menu prompts to create a new PIN.  Your new PIN will be active immediately.

What transactions require my PIN?

Your PIN is needed for ATM transactions, PIN purchases, automated phone assistance, and online account access.

How much money can I withdraw at a time?

Daily limits for withdrawals and transactions are listed in the Welcome Packet you received with your Money Network® card and Money Network™ checks; the daily limits can also be found within the fee schedule.

What are the Money Network™ checks and how do I use them?

You can use Money Network™ checks like personal checks to pay bills or friends and family.  Additional information regarding Money Network™ checks and how to use them is available in the FAQ's section of the Money Network website

What happens if I do not spend all my funds available in my Money Network® account?

Any amount that is not spent will remain available to you until you spend it.  Log into your account online or call the Customer Service number on the back of your card at any time to access your account balance information; once known, you can withdraw the balance.

What should I do if I do not recognize the merchant or the amount for one or my recent transactions?

If you do not recognize a transaction in your recent history, you can dispute the charge by calling the Customer Service number on the back of your card.  To learn more about how to dispute a transaction you can also reference the FAQ section of the Money Network® webiste
