Research gets Best Paper Award at ACM GIS 2009
The paper "Improved visibility computations on massive grid terrains" by Jeremy Fishman, Herman Haverkort and Laura Toma has been awarded the Best Paper Award at ACM SIGSPATIAL GIS 2009, the ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems. The paper is the result of the summer research of Jeremy Fishman '09 with Toma. Jeremy developed algorithms for computing visibility on terrains that are an order of magnitude faster than what was known before and can process terrains up to 28GB of data in 430 minutes on a desktop machine with .5GB of RAM.
