Community Immersion Pre-Orientation Service Trip Leaders

pre-o-leader

Pre-Orientation Leaders have the opportunity to help first year students comfortably begin to navigate the local community and college life. Whether it is organizing service projects, leading discussions about important community issues, modeling endurance and patience in backbreaking work, or laughing at lunch over the intricacies of eating lobster, these leaders devote four days to making new students feel at home once they arrive at Bowdoin.

"My favorite part of the week was the student leaders. The upperclassmen leading the immersion were great choices. They were so welcoming and continue to be friendly to me when I see them on campus."

Responsible for all aspects of the Community Immersion four-day experience, leaders work in pairs and live with a group of ten students in the local community. All leaders participate in a May retreat for initial planning and then attend a four-day leadership training program during August where they receive CPR/Wilderness First Aid Certification, learn group development and facilitation skills, and prepare for the arrival of new students.
