Leadership Development

AmeriCorps at Bowdoin

Raking Leaves

AmeriCorps is a national program that involves Americans of all ages in results-driven community service. AmeriCorps members provide direct service, support volunteer recruitment and manage programs in the areas of education, environment, general human need, public safety, and homeland security.

Bowdoin students who are leaders of public service programs have the opportunity to become part-time AmeriCorps members and complete a term of service during the academic year. Upon completing a specified number of service hours, members receive an Education Award that can be used to pay for education costs or to pay back qualified student loans. The AmeriCorps Education Award Program allows Bowdoin to reward outstanding student leaders for their important commitment to public service and contributions to the community.
