Commencement Weekend 2018 Highlights

Friday, May 25

8:30 a.m.  Commencement Information Table open for up-to-date information. David Saul Smith Union, across from Bowdoin Express.

8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.  Annual Meeting of Phi Beta Kappa. Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinksi Recital Hall.

11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Academic Department and Program Open Houses (Note: Not all open houses begin at 11:00 a.m.) Check the full Open House Schedule for specific times and locations.

1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.  A conversation with honorary degree recipient Susan E. Rice, diplomat and former National Security Advisor. Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center.

2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.  A conversation with honorary degree recipient Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author and MacArthur "Genius Grant" Fellow. Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinksi Recital Hall.

4:30 p.m. The Baccalaureate Ceremony, held in Watson Arena, marks the official close of the academic year and the coming together of graduates and their families. It features remarks by President Clayton Rose, a speech by a graduating senior, and a keynote address by honorary degree recipient Thomas R. Cech, Nobel Prize-winning chemist.

Down East Lobster Bake


5:30 p.m.  A Down East Lobster Bake,
for graduating seniors, their families and guests, faculty, and staff. Buffet service in a tent adjacent to Farley Field House (next to Watson Arena); seating in Farley. Entrance on Coffin Street. Meal tickets required.


Saturday, May 26

8:20 a.m.  Seniors meet at Baxter House to line up for the procession.

9:05 a.m.  Faculty meet in front of Hubbard Hall and alumni meet in front of the Visual Arts Center to line up for the procession.

9:20 a.m.  Commencement Processional March begins.

10:00 a.m.  213th Commencement Exercises. The Commencement ceremony will be held outside on the quad in front of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, except in the case of severe weather. If it’s raining, bring an umbrella and other rain gear. No tickets are necessary for the outdoor ceremony, and you may bring as many guests as you wish. In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will be held in the Sidney J. Watson Arena. For information regarding notification, and details for an indoor ceremony, go to the Commencement FAQ page.

12:00 p.m.  Commencement Luncheon. For members of the class of 2018, their families and guests, alumni, faculty, and staff. Buffet service in a tent adjacent to Farley Field House; seating in Farley. Entrance on Coffin Street. Meal tickets required.
