Summer 2017, and 2016-2017 academic year

Research Projects

Coastal Studies research fellows this summer included sixteen Bowdoin students, two students from the College of William and Mary, and a student from Barnard College. Summer projects included computation of flooding scenarios for the coast of Maine, salt marsh sediment dynamics, research on the ecology and evolution of marine invertebrates, neurophysiology of crustaceans,  population diet analysis, and population growth and decline of green crabs, and the spatial history of Portland Maine's working waterfront.

Ben Twining, Interim Executive Director, and senior research scientist at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, joined summer researchers for a research symposium on July 21, and gave a talk titled: Exploring the role of phytoplankton in climate change, one cell at a time
