Nathan Goold Prize

The Nathan Goold Prize (since1922), by Abba Goold Woolson, of Portland, in memory of her grandfather. The Prize is awarded annually to that member of the senior class who has, throughout the college course, attained the highest standing in Greek and Latin studies.

Notable awardees include:

Harlan Berkley Peabody, class of 1950, author of The Winged Word: A Study in the Technique of Ancient Greek Oral Composition as Seen Principally through Hesiod's Works and Days.

William F. Wyatt, Jr, class of 1953, Professor Emeritus of Classics at Brown University.

Kyle M. Phillips, class of 1956, was Professor of Classics at Bryn Mawr College (1962-1982) and Director of the Bryn Mawr Excavations in Tuscany 1961, 1964, 1966-1988.

Allan D. Wooley, class of 1958, Cilley Professor of Greek & Quondam Coordinator of Academic Computing at Phillips Exeter Academy and editor for the Classical Association of New England.

Karl Galinsky, class of 1963, Floyd Cailloux Centennial Professor of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin.

Peter Bing, class of 1976, Professor of Classics at Emory University.

Joseph A. Farrell, class of 1977, Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania.

Aditya Behl, class of 1988, Professor of South and Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
