Hannibal Hamlin Emery Latin Prize

The Hannibal Hamlin Emery Latin Prize (since1922), established in honor of her uncle, Hannibal Hamlin Emery, class of 1874, by Persis E. Mason. The Prize is awarded each year to the member of the junior or senior class for proficiency in Latin.

Notable awardees include:

Nathan Dane, class of 1937, Professor of Classics at Bowdoin from1946 to 1979.

William S.Cohen, class of 1962, U.S. Senator from 1979 to 1997 and U.S. Secretary of Defense from 1997 to 2001.

Karl Galinsky, class of 1963, Floyd Cailloux Centennial Professor of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin.
