The foreign language project is a new program which is a collaboration between the Children’s Center and the Romance Language Department. This program allows for Bowdoin Students who are fluent (primarily native speakers) in Italian, French or Spanish to come into our rooms to expose the children to foreign languages. Each semester, there is approximately one intern for each classroom who comes in once a week on a regular basis for 8-10 weeks. The interns share children’s songs or read to them in a foreign language during the free choice time in the classroom. This project is in its second semester and is still in its pilot stage but has had much success so far. These positions are posted through the Romance Language Department. Margaret Boyle and Anne Brooks can be contacted for more information.
